영웅에 대한 새로운 정의

that makes you want to believe that there still exists a right and wrong,
that decency will somehow triumph in the end.

A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. 영웅이란 자신의 인생을 자기 자신보다 더 큰 무언가에 바친 사람이다. That's what it takes to be a hero, a little gem of innocence inside you that makes you want to believe that there still exists a right and wrong, that decency will somehow triumph in the end. 세상에는 여전히 선과 악이 존재하지만, 결국 선이 어떻게든 승리할 거라고 믿는 내면의 작은 순수함, 바로 이것이 영웅에게 필요한 자질이다.

* what it takes ~ : ~에 필요한 자질 * decency : 예절(여기서는 앞의 right를 받아 ‘선’으로 해석함)

영웅에 대한 새로운 정의 영웅이란 나폴레옹 같은 사람만이 아니군요. 영웅에 대한 이 새로운 정의에 의하면 우리사회에는 수많은 영웅들이 있습니다. 아름다운 마음, 남에 대한 배려를 매일 실천하는 사람들이 모두 영웅이기 때문입니다. 우리는 매일 영웅으로 살고 영웅으로 다시 태어나야 하겠습니다.
