The new U.S. ambassador to South Korea recently published his first entries in a special blog called “All About Sung Kim.” The blog is part of Café USA, an online community created by former envoy Christopher Hill in 2004. It is a way for the ambassador to ①______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______.

“This blog is the perfect way for me to share my experiences and communicate with the Korean people,” Kim said. “I think it will also help me find ways for our two nations to work together.”

In Kim’s first blog entry, titled “My First Weekend in Seoul,” he wrote about returning to ②______ ______ ______ ______ ______ ______. The ambassador, his wife and two children were greeted by their Korean relatives when they arrived at Incheon Airport this November.

“I have a deep personal connection to Korea,” Kim said. “I was born here and spent part of my childhood here. Although I am an American, my parents taught me to respect Korean traditions and values.”

Kim, 51, grew up in Los Angeles, California and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He ③______ ______ ______ ______ from Loyola University and a Master of Laws degree from the London School of Economics. Kim worked as a public prosecutor before joining the Foreign Service in 2003. He has served in various positions throughout Asia and is considered an expert on North Korean affairs.

최근 신임 주한미국대사 성김은 자신의 특별 블로그에 “성 김의 모든 것”이라는 첫 글을 올렸다. 이 블로그는 2004년 크리스토퍼 힐 전 대사가 제작한 온라인 커뮤니티인 Cafe USA의 일부이다. Cafe USA는 대사가 국민들 그리고 지역사회와 교류하기 위한 방식 중 하나다.

“이 블로그는 내 경험을 공유하고 한국 국민들과 소통하는데 최적의 수단이다. 양국이 협력하는 방안을 모색하는데 도움이 될 것이라 본다.” 라고 김 대사가 말했다.

김 대사의 첫 블로그 글은 “서울에서의 첫 주말” 이라는 제목이 붙었으며, 그는 자신이 태어난 땅에 돌아온 것에 대한 이야기를 적었다. 김 대사와 부인과 두 자녀는 지난 11월 인천 공항에 도착했을 당시 한국의 친척들의 환대를 받았다.

“나는 개인적으로 한국과 깊은 인연을 가지고 있다. 한국에서 태어나 유년기를 보냈다. 미국인이긴 하지만, 나의 부모님은 한국 전통과 가치를 존중하라고 가르치셨다.” 라고 김 대사가 밝혔다.

51세의 김 대사는 캘리포니아 로스앤젤레스에서 자랐으며, 펜실베이니아 대학을 졸업하였다. 김 대사는 로욜라 대학에서 법학 학위를 취득했고, 런던 정경대에서 법학 석사 학위를 취득하였다. 2003년 외교부에 들어가기 전까지 검사로 근무하였다. 아시아 도처에서 다양한 역할을 맡았으며 북한 문제 전문가로 알려져 있다.
