They believe they're destined for great things, just like many of you,  자기들의 전도에는 놀라운 일들이 예정되어 있다고 믿고 있어. 너희들처럼. their eyes are full of hope, just like you. 눈은 희망으로 가득 차 있어, 바로 너희들처럼. Did they wait until it was too late to make from their lives even one iota of what they were capable? 그들은 너무 늦게 까지 기다리기만 해서 자신들이 살아 있는 동안 이룰 수 있던 일 중 조금도 이루지 못한 것은 아닐까? Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.  카르페, 카르페 디엠, 현재를 즐겨라. 얘들아, 너희들의 삶을 특별하게 만들어라. △ The world is one’s oyster - used to tell someone that there is no limit to the opportunities that they have △ daffodil 수선화  △ fertilizing daffodils - a reference to the fact that all people die and return to the ground △ legacy 유산, 유물         Chan's Advice!  Dead Poets Society - 몇 번을 다시 봐도 똑같은 감동을 주는 영화입니다. 영화 속에서 키팅 선생은 제자들에게 말합니다. 사람은 반드시 죽기 마련이니 희망에 가득 차 있는 지금, '현재를 즐기라'고. 그러나 대부분의 한국 교실에서는 '몇 년 뒤 멋진 대학생이 되려면 지금 하고 싶은 것들을 참고 희생해야 한다'고 가르칩니다. 키팅 같은 선생님의 수업이 한국의 학교에서는 언제쯤 가능할까요? 오직 입시준비에 청춘을 다 바치는 한국의 젊은 학생들을 보면 너무 안타깝습니다. 시와 문학을 마음껏 즐기며 자유로운 정신을 추구하고, 'Carpe Diem'을 실천하는 청춘의 모습을 볼 수 있는 날을 그려봅니다.                   - 영어등대 이찬승 드림 -
