현대 문명 속에서 학습을 저해하는 열 가지 요인 (1)
1. We don’t allow ourselves (and society doesn’t allow us) enough time for wonder.
사람들은 호기심을 가질 만큼 시간적 여유가 없다.
2. Our workplace activities and our home routines are often repetitious and stimulus-poor.
직장일과 집안일은 대개 반복적이고 자극이 부족하다.
3. We don’t do anything together anymore.
사람들은 더 이상 함께 하는 활동을 하지 않는다.
4. We get too much of our life experience second-hand
사람들 삶의 너무 많은 부분이 간접적인 경험으로 이루어진다.
(from books & movies, and online). (이를테면 책이나 영화, 온라인처럼.)

사람들은 상상력 빈곤에 시달리고 있다. 사람들은 상상하려 하지 않는다.
이제 사람들은 상상하는 법을 거의 잊어버렸다.

끔찍하다는 생각이 듭니다.
이것이 21세기를 사는 우리들의 솔직한 자화상입니다.
상상력 빈곤 문제에 있어서는 한국도 큰일입니다.
제가 경영하는 능률교육도 예외가 아닙니다.
학교든 기업이든 완전히 새로운 시스템을 도입할 때가 되었습니다.
아래 Bill Gates의 경고를 우리 모두 귀담아 듣고 파괴적 혁신을 시작해야 하겠습니다.
"우리의 고등학교 시스템은 50년 전에 만들어져 지난 산업사회 시대의 needs에 맞춰져 있습니다.
21세기 needs를 충족시킬 수 있도록 완전히 다시 설계하지 않으면,
우리는 매년 수백만 명의 미국인들의 삶을 제약하고 심지어 망치게 됩니다."
(Our high schools were designed 50 years ago to meet the needs of another age.
Until we design them to meet the needs of the 21st century,
we will keep limiting - even ruining - the lives of millions of Americans every year.)
