THE SECOND LABOR
Hercules kills the Water Snake
When the king saw Hercules he was astonished. “I will give Hercules a harder task,” he said.
The next day the king told Hercules to go and kill a terrible water snake with nine heads.
The water snake lived in a den near a fountain. Hercules picked up his bow and arrows and set off. He took Iolaus with him. Iolaus was a brave boy.
After a long walk they reached the fountain. Suddenly the terrible water snake with nine heads came out of its den. The snake lashed its tail, and every mouth hissed loudly.
