비운의 앵무새
Gifts for Mom
Three sons were discussing the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother.
The eldest said, "I built a big house for our mother."
The second said, "I sent her a Mercedes with a driver."
The youngest smiled and said, "I’ve got you both beat. You remember how Mom enjoyed
reading the Bible? And you know she can’t see very well. I sent her a remarkable parrot
that recites the entire Bible. He’s one of a kind. Mom just had to name the chapter and
verse, and the parrot recites it."
Soon, Mom sent out her letter of thanks. To her first son: "The house you built is so huge.
I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house."
To her second son: "I am too old to travel. I stay home most of the time. And the driver
is rude!"
To her third son: "You have the good sense to know what your mother likes. The chicken
was delicious."

어머니를 위한 선물
세 아들이 연세가 드신 어머니께 드릴 수 있는 선물을 의논하고 있었다.
맏이가 말했다 "어머니를 위해 큰 집을 지었어."
둘째가 말했다 "어머니께 운전기사까지 딸려서 벤츠 한 대를 보내드렸어"
셋째가 웃으며 말했다 "그런 선물들보다 내 것이 훨씬 나을 걸. 어머니가 성경 읽으실 때 얼마나
즐거워하시는지 알아? 그리고 어머니 눈이 어두워진 것도 알고들 있지? 난 어머니께 성경 통째로
낭독하는 기막힌 앵무새 한 마리를 보내드렸어. 세상에 단 한 마리뿐인 앵무새지! 어머니께서
성경 몇 장 몇 절을 읽을지 말씀만하시면 앵무새가 쫙 낭독을 해드리니까."
얼마 후, 어머니는 고맙다는 편지를 보내오셨다.
맏이에게 "네가 지어준 집이 너무 크구나. 난 오로지 한 방만 사용하는데, 청소는 전체를 해야
하는구나"
둘째에게는 "난 여행을 다니기에는 너무 늙었단다. 그래서 대부분의 시간을 집에서 보내지. 그런데
운전기사가 무례하더구나!"
막내에게는 이렇게 썼다.
"넌 엄마가 어떤 것을 좋아하는지 매우 잘 알고 있구나. 치킨은 맛있었다." |
